I loved the book and when I watched the movie I felt it did the novel justice. One of the better and more accurate book-to-film adaptations.

I'm always careful when watching a remake of a film I loved. This remake will not disappoint. A powerful performance by Jim Caviezel (The Passion of Christ) carries this classic tale of loss and revenge.

Guy Pearce (Memento) puts on a good performance as the scheming best friend.

Having been a fan of the books since childhood, I was a little bit skeptical of a remake of this movie in full hollywood style. I normally don't watch movies in the cinema but with this film I made an exception and I'm so glad I did.

The movie was in a word transporting. Everything that was magical about the book series was ported over carefully for this film. I was unsure at first how the CGI would come in to play but it seems well suited to all the mythological creatures and general magic.

A really nice surprise and highly recommended. However, I do think that for children under the age of 7 this may (at some points) be too violent and scary.
